Interesting
information about Consolidated Diamond Blade.
Consolidated Diamond has been manufacturing quality diamond tools
since it was founded in Yonkers, New York more than 65 years
ago. During that time, Consolidated has transformed its
production to meet the growing and changing demands for
diamond tooling. During World War II, Consolidated focused its
production on diamond dressing tools and grinding wheels for
industrial applications. These tools were so critical to the
war effort that special electrical service was installed at
the factory to assure an uninterrupted supply of power. After
the war, Consolidated became one of the first companies to
manufacture diamond tipped saw blades for construction, stone
and refractory industries. Always an innovative company,
Consolidated holds many of the original patents relating to
the design and production of these saw blades for cutting
concrete, granite, and other hard and/or abrasive materials.
In 1977, Consolidated became an operating division of Diamond
Productions, Inc. after being purchased by DPI from the Ferro
Corporation. Four years later, the factory was moved from
Yonkers its current location in Wayne, New Jersey.
With the increased popularity of polished
granite, marble, and engineered stone in commercial and
residential construction, Consolidated again refocused its
production, this time to meet the demands of the stone
fabrication industry. Decorative edges on stone fireplaces,
countertops, and building facades were traditionally worked by
hand. Stone working technology, however, began to change in
the 1980’s with the introduction of specialized power routing
equipment ranging from manual machines, similar to those used
to shape wood, to sophisticated CNC edging machines. To run
cost effectively this new technology requires quality diamond
tools, precisely formed to produce the desired stone edge
shape. Consolidated developed the computer software, diamond
bonding systems, and specialized manufacturing techniques to
fill this requirement. Consolidated’s Conform router bits and
profile wheels can be made in virtually any shape an architect
or homeowner may desire. Conform wheels have a continuous
layer of bonded diamond on the cutting surface. Consolidated
has also developed a unique five step system which allows the
stone fabricator to not only grind and shape but also to
machine finish and polish the stone edge. In addition to
Conform router bits and profile wheels, Consolidated also
manufactures diamond core drills, grinding heads, saw blades,
and other specialty products for the stone industry. With its
partnership with Dongsin Diaflx of Korea, Consolidated is able
to quickly and economically provide the stone industry a
complete line of quality diamond tools.
